PostHeaderIcon dog obedience? no skool?

i'm wondering how to maybe teach the dog more obedience for other people without having to go to a school.. i have taught her everything, but the problem is other people in the family let her get away with biting, jumpin, etc too often. she won't do it to me so i can't teach her it.. and she knows to avoid me if she does it to someone else.. how do i make her stop for other people? she's getting fairly old now too.. 10 months.. lab/sheppard.... by the way for anyone.. side answer.. what is clicker training?? i've seen people say that and i don't know wut they're talkin about..

it depends on what kind of biting if its playful then the dog will outgrow it but if it aggressive then you need to talk to your other family members to help you stop the dog from biting, otherwise it won’t as along as you’re not around. jumping is natural just say down in a firm tone and have others do so too like when they come in the door tell them to tell the dog down. this worked for my parent’s dog but sometimes he gets so excited he start to jump. also if the dog still jumps bend down to it, its trying to get within eye contact with you. clicker training i believe is where the dog has an electric collar on and when it miss behaves you have a little remote and push the button and it gives the dog a little shock. after a couple of good shocks your dog will be best behaved. keep in mind labs can be very hyper so be patient

You can find some great books at the library, dealing with your breed of dog for training.

    Clicker training is stupid.

Just get a regular training collar and work with your dog. I have a stubborn pit bull but she’s coming around every day.

Training a dog isn’t magic – you have to work constantly.

Oh yeah – watch the Dog Whisperer!

Get a book at the pet store specific to the breed. If not put her in a corner w/a dunce cap and TV clicker, kidding.

Check out Dogtra collars, Yes it’s a shock collar. I hated it too but once my dog trainer showed me how to properly use it, It was worth ever penny. Now I hardly have to use it. If I so much as hold it in my hand – all of my dogs pay attention and listen to my ever command.

For what I know about "Clicker Training" is this stupid little devise that makes a clicking noise that gets the dogs attention. You can also use a can with pebbles or pennies, it does the same thing – just gets the dogs attention….Good Luck

My dogs listen to me, but when people they don’t know come around what I say don’t mean nothing. So I don’t know what to tell you. And my family let them get away with nothing. So they have a little since on what not to do.

i agree with everyone else. get a book specific to your breed. i have a lab and we did clicker training with her and it worked. she’s the alpha female, and this was the only way we could successfully train her. clicker training uses a clicker (there’s no other way to explain it) and everytime you click it you give the dog a treat. you start giving commands while using the clicker and teaching them the commands. gradually they will learn that by doing the command they will get a treat. phase out the clicker if you want and slowly phase out the treats as well. i’m sure a trainer or vet would give a better explanation as to the whole method, but it might be something you would want to look into, especially if she is doing it to other people. hopefully that helps a little!

Clicker training is a positive (reward-based) training technique based on the same methods used to train performing animals such as dolphins. It is also used for training movie dogs (such as those in 101 Dalmations) because it is very effective. In simplified form, you teach the dog that every time they do something right, they get a click (with a little bottle-top like clicker from the petstore) and a treat, then after a while, the click alone is enough positive reinforcement (although occasional treats also help). It is a way to teach the dog to WANT to work with you. There are many books and websites on the technique if you want to check it out.

When your dog starts biting tell her to leave it and when she stops biting say "Good Girl"
When she jumps tell her "Off" if she still jumps tell her "Off" again
    this will take sometime
If your dog pulls on the leash when you take her for a walk get this
collar; It’s called a Gentle Leader
I got one for my two year old black lab and it works really good
Well I hope my advice helps for you! :]

You need to train the rest of the family, not the dog. Sit them down and explain how to handle her, and hat her behavior they let her get away with will turn around and bite you all in the ass on day!
