What type of sausage should I give puppy for training?
I have a 5 month Shih Tzu who has been eating Royal Canin Mini Junior. I'm going to a training school with her, and the trainer told me to bits of sausage to give my puppy as a high value treat. I'm not sure if that will upset her stomach or not. If I were to give a small amount of sausage for training session only, what is the best options?

My dog responded very well to hot dog during training (I used a decent quality all beef hot dog). They were an ideal size & consistency for slicing.
I would never give sausage as a treat when training I used tiny pieces of cheese he loved it or you could just buy dog cookies and give small pieces .to start after a while a pat on the head and a good boy or girl is sufficient . You would not want your dog to be over weight
Tiny pieces of boiled chicken or steak is better than Sausage. Sausage is too spicy.
Sausage wayy too fatty & greasy. If you must give good fresh meat use boiled chicken Gizzards, Cool & Dry & put in zip lock baggie. (Larger pieces cut in two pieces.)
Ive had students bring hot dogs to class. But if you’re worried about upsetting the tummy try plain cheerios, marshmallows or small amounts of cheese. most dogs love that kind of stuff. You could also try veggies if your dog likes them such as carrots.
I never have used treats to train a dog.
Don’t. You will upset her tummy, and for no reason.
Just look on the shelf at the pet store, and see if there is a large kibble form of what she is eating, and stick to that. Or small pieces of carrot or even blueberries are fine. Anything she thinks is interesting is OK to use so long as it won’t upset her tummy.
A lot of trainers forget how easy it is to upset a puppy’s tummy, and also don’t trust your ability to train with something that isn’t incredibly decadent. It really needn’t be – all you need is something the puppy likes. Unless your dog has very little food interest, even her regular kibble will do, provided it doesn’t come in tiny pieces – but in a pinch, you can even soak it, make ‘cookies’ out it and dry them in the oven.
I would definitely stay away from sausage. Too much added spice and the high fat concentration isn’t good. Dogs are absolutely thrilled with other human food such as cheese, hot dog, goldfish crackers, etc. You might watch sodium content though since Shih Tzus tend to develop congestive heart failure pretty easily and pretty early on. For my training I have found little tiny pellets that resemble Tart’n'Tinys. Zuke’s Mini Naturals. They are very flavorful and only contain a few calories each. My dogs go nuts for the salmon flavored ones. You can smell ‘em through the bag! lol I’ve even used cat treats in the past. Much more flavor than dog treats.
I recommend Pro Plan biscuits for training.
the best thing to do is probably bye some puppy treats puppies love them… they have them in like every pet store
i recommend finding a trainer who doesnt brib dogs to listen with treats
use bil jac for training it can be found in the grocer’s freezer section. pork is poison to dogs. dont feed your dog pork!
